Bet Israel Synagogue | Culture Tours
Bet Israel Synagogue, which is the biggest and most magnificent synagogue in the city, is located in the Karataş district.
The most important place that wealthy Jews chose to settle in the second half of the 19th century was Karataş and its surroundings, which opened to the new settlement. Upon the failure of the small synagogues serving in this process, the Porte's permission was asked for the construction of the new synagogue in 1904. Following the permission issued on March 15, 1905, the construction of the synagogue was started.
It is 23 km from Bet Israel Synagogue at İzmir Airport. You can use our Izmir Airport Transfer options for the Bet Israel Synagogue transportation.
The building style and seating arrangement of Bet Israel Synagogue, which was opened for worship in 1907, is different from the traditional Izmir style. The centre of the synagogue was not created with a plan and the double Teva application took place from the beginning. Due to the location of the plot, Ehal was placed on the south wall instead of the east.
The woodworks of Bet Israel Synagogue, reminiscent of Italian synagogues, were made by Italian masters using solid mahogany. Teva and Ehal processed like lace are the most beautiful places in the synagogue.
There are big arched windows all over the walls and David's 6-pointed star above each. The lower floor of the synagogue is made for men and the upper floor is for women. On the upper floor, there is also a small exhibition hall consisting of religious objects, documents and photographs.
Bet Israel Synagogue is used only on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, holidays, Bar Mitzva and weddings today.
