Teos Ancient City

There are Hellenistic and Roman monuments in the ancient city of Teos, which was one of the 12 Ionian settlements in the Archaic Age and established colonies like other Ionian settlements. The most important monuments are the Dionysos Altar, agora, theatre, odeon, city walls and harbor ruins.

Teos Ancient City, located 5 kilometers from Seferihisar, is one of the oldest and most important historical ruins of the district. Teos was one of the 12 Ionic cities and was founded by the Achaean General Athamas in BC. It was founded around 1080. The first structure to reach Teos, located between the ports in the north and south, is the Temple of Dionysus, the largest temple of Dionysus (the patron god of Teos), built by the famous architect of the Hellenistic period, Hermogenes. There is a water cistern, mostly intact, to the south of the temple.

Lebedos

Lebedos the other ancient city in the district, is located further south. In 1522, the Ottomans built a fortress in the small fishing village of Sigacik to be used as a naval facility. It is possible to see the castle ruins today.
