History of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport
The foundation of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport was laid in 1980 by Kenan Evren. Named after ex-prime minister Adnan Menderes, this airport is the second largest airport in the country after Istanbul. The airport, which is located in Gaziemir district of Izmir province, came into service on November 17, 1987.
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport was established in an area of 8.230.945 m2.

On 11 May 2007, the old international terminal was renewed and started to serve as the domestic terminal. The size of the domestic terminal is 28.500 m2.
