Izmir Clock Tower | Izmir City Tour

İzmir Clock Tower is a historical clock tower in the Konak district of Izmir. The Clock Tower was designed by Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Pere and was built in 1901 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdülhamid's throne. The clock itself is the German Emperor II. It is a gift from Wilhelm.

It is decorated in a detailed Ottoman architectural style. The tower, which has an iron and lead skeleton, is 25m high and has 4 fountains placed in a circular shape around it. The columns are made by inspiring Moorish themes. 

İzmir Clock Tower is depicted on the backside of the 500 TL Turkish Lira between 1983-1989.

Tower; is named in Konak Square and as the symbol of Izmir. There are still similar Ottoman-era clock towers in the former Balkan provinces of the Ottoman Empire, especially in today's Serbian, Bosnia and Montenegro cities such as Belgrade, Prijepolje, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Gradacac and Stara Varos.
